Antique American School Furniture Co. School Desk • Buffalo, NY • Circa 1899–1906
 
A beautiful piece of American schoolhouse history.
 
This antique school desk was manufactured by the American School Furniture Company (American S.F. Co.) of Buffalo, New York, whose name is cast directly into the ornate iron frame. The company operated under this name from approximately 1899–1906, before becoming part of the American Seating Company.
 
The desk features gorgeous ornate cast-iron sides with floral scrollwork, striped hardwood construction, an integrated bench seat, original-style slotted hardware, pencil groove and inkwell opening.
 
The wood has been gently cleaned while intentionally preserving the scratches, marks and wear accumulated through more than a century of use. One of my favorite details is the old “CHUCKIE + MARY ANN” carved into the desktop — a little piece of schoolhouse history that absolutely had to stay.
 
The wooden pads beneath the cast-iron feet allow the desk to sit on a modern floor without needing to be permanently mounted.
 
A wonderful statement piece for an antique collector, historic home, library, office, children’s room, photography studio, restaurant or anyone who loves authentic pieces with a story.
 
Condition: Very good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, scratches and markings.
